title pic George and Flora’s Secret Garden by Jo Elworthy and Lee Honor Roberts

Posted by dulwichmum on Fri 2 April 2010

Name of product: George and Flora’s Secret Garden by Jo Elworthy and published by Eden Project titles (very Dulwich!).

Price: £5.99.

The blurb: “George and Flora are over the moon – Mum is going to have a baby! It’s due in July, which seems like such a long time to wait. But then Grandpa has an idea – why don’t they grow a garden for when the baby arrives? There is lots to do: seeds to buy, soil to turn and lugs to repel … and will ehty be able to keep it all a secret from Mum?

George and Flora’s Secret Garden is a fantastic follow up to The World Came to My Place Today and George Saves the World by Lunchtime. With step-by-step guides to growing your own vegetables and plants, recipes, colourful illustrations and informative diagrams, this is the perfect book for introducing children to gardening, the seasons and how to prepare for a new baby.”

First impressions: 32 pages of interesting illustrations and text. I should expect that this book is perfectly pitched for children up to five years old. My six and eight year old children enjoyed reading it with me for this review, but wanted me to make it clear that it was far too young for them.

Ease of Use: Lovely story and lots of lovely illustrations to enjoy and discuss together.

Pros: A lovely bed-time read, bound to be a hit with tinies (my children both agree and then fight physically over who will take it to bed…).

Cons: You poppets may want to start digging up the garden…(OHMYGOD!)

Value for money: £5.99 – what price a happy bed-time?

Dulwichmum verdict: ★★★★☆

title pic Bronze Goddess, Limited Edition, Liquid Eye Shadow by Estee Lauder

Posted by dulwichmum on Thu 1 April 2010

Name of product: Bronze Goddess Liquid EyeShadow by Estee Lauder (Limited Edition).

Price: To be advised, but I expect they will cost approximately £15 each.

The blurb: “Introducing the Bronze Goddess collection for Summer 2010! Exotic, eye-popping colour and seductive bronze radiance create a sensuous look. Skin is luminous. Eyes sparkle with bold metallic hues. Bright lips beckon. Take a walk on the wild side.

Intense metallic shades. Featherweight liquid shadow delivers maximum impact in one stroke. Vibrant colour lasts without fading. Ultra creamy texture feels soft and velvety. Liquid formula glides on with wand applicator. Available in 4 shades; Molten Bronze, Aqua Flash, Sand Shimmer, Ultra Violet.”

First impressions: The colours I received are stunning vivid metallics and would, undoubtedly look fabulous with a tan. Molten Bronze and Aqua Flash – very Sex and the City and very Summer 2010!

Ease of Use: These small bottles contain a thick sponge tipped applicator which delivers a bold line. This can be smudged if required to give a bold hue to the lid, which looks fabulous with a tan. The colours are vivid, glamorous and glittery.

Pros: I am so pleased to see a range that has been specifically designed to look amazing with a holiday tan! Instantly update your make-up bag and get it ready for summer.

Cons: Although the colours are perfect, the thickness of the applicator means that there is no getting away from the fact that these shadows deliver a brave, high fashion look.

Value for money: The price is to be advised, but for an instant update of a post holiday make-up bag, I would imagine that they represent good value.

Dulwichmum verdict: ★★★★☆

Stockists: Online at Esteelauder.co.uk soon, and coming to a department store near you in the next month, but check out the range online at EsteeLauder.com as they are currently available in the USA.
