Monsters
Before I commence this review, I must firstly confess that I am now a Disney Blu-Ray Ambassador! I am not entirely clear as to my role, perhaps similar to a UN Ambassador, but without the flies and poverty? Anyhow, don’t cry off and claim that I have sold out, at this stage in the summer holidays, with my mother, Brenda, at large with regard to childcare (I am a working parent you understand) and my poppets beginning to speak fluent Swedish as they have spent so much time baking and sticking and gluing with Agneta our au pair (sigh), I would be prepared to consider a summer camp run by Roman Catholic priests as entertainment… (you do realise I am joking now don’t you?).

I have pounced on the offer of a regular supply of swishy new Blu-ray high definition DVDs in exchange for my opinion – which everyone is entitled to – just ask! Disney have not paid me, I shall say whatever I like about their goods – in genuine Dulwichmum stylie – I live rather close to Brixton you know (checks out new blingtastic pedicure).

I had no idea that my darling man owned a Blu-ray player at all! James has been spending so much time in his study of late, “putting the city of London back together”(grinds teeth)… Apparently a Playstation 3 plays Blu-ray DVDs and James is now on the stool of repentance as he has been depriving our poppets, playing his games for months…(sob)

Name of product: Monsters Inc Blu Ray DVD

Price: £11.97 on Amazon

The blurb: “Top Scarer Sulley and his enthusiastic Scare Assistant Mike work at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream processing factory in Monstropolis. The main power source of the monster world is the collected screams of human children. However, Monsters believe children are dangerous and toxic, and they are scared silly when a little girl wanders into their world. Sulley and Mike do their best to return the girl home, but they face monstrous intrigue and some hilarious misadventures along the way.” This is truly a modern day, classic animation, up there with Bambi and Lady and the Tramp.

First impressions: Plastic swishy cover, fabo Disney graphics on the box. Hold on, there are several additional features here, ones my munchkins have never used or seen before…Roz’s 100 door challenge game (OHMYGOD!), an interactive documentary and a documentary on production – lets cut to the chase and crack open the popcorn!

Ease of Use: Pop it in the machine, adhere yourself to your Slendertone belt and pour out the gin, what’s not to love?

Pros: This film is well and truly a future classic. The munchkins are captivated on their beanbags for at least two hours, and that is not taking into account the fabulous high definition graphics and high pitched crystal clear roars which are now even more intensely scarey for little people (in an unthreatening way)…

Cons: My babies have already enjoyed this future classic on many occasions (grrr).

Value for money: Worth every penny

Dulwichmum Verdict: ★★★★☆
– my munchkins have seen this film many times already and so they will probably watch it on Blu-ray a further twice…(they will play the super new extra games many times though).
