Charity

My conscience has often been pricked by guilt as I totter out of Waitrose to see the sad photos of sweet little puddy tats – all sore paws and big sad eyes. I have dug deep in James’ my pockets and even been known to trip back into the shop to purchase appropriate kitty foods to donate to the appeal.
Am I now the only one wondering why The Cats Protection League had 11.2 million pounds lolling about in an Icelandic Bank?
“Cats Protection would like to assert that, whilst upsetting, this news will have no impact at all on the charity’s day to day operation,” a statement said.
Well bully for them! At what point will a charity actually say:
“We are just fine for now – why don’t you give your money to an organisation that feeds children in some destitute country for a while.”
I haven’t got a political bone in my head, but if The Cats Protection League will genuinely not miss it, perhaps their funds are better off in Iceland…

Have you asked Beluga’s opinion?
[A good point well made - are you feeling OK? - tee hee]

Darling Daddy,
Beluga was an orphan from The Cats Protection League, and so was his brother Krug (shhh – don’t tell them, I tell them they are pedigree pussies) and I usually have so much sympathy with animal charities. I will be back to my normal superficial self tomorrow (sigh)…

The amounts stashed away by councils and charities in Icelandic accounts has been a real eye opener. I’d imagine people may not be so charitable in future to The Cats Protection League, etc.

Excellent expose DM. Are you moving into investigative journalism? To add to the kitty (HA!), I have £4.63 lolling about in my Child Health Benefit account and can safely say that the loss of it would have no impact on my day to day operations. Perhaps, with a groundswell of opinion behind you, there is an opportunity here to cure global poverty? t.x

Good point!

I’m sorry. I was going to make a witty, insightful and entertaining comment about Iceland and charities. But that’s not going to happen now, because I’m struggling too much with ‘pedigree pussies’.
For heaven’s sake – I’m 41 years old! (You can take a girl out of the convent…)
