These lovely hard-wearing boots have a tiny toy hidden inside the sole, so I know that they will be an instant hit with Freya. This is a current craze with the girls at Freya’s school but despite the gimmicks – Clarke’s shoes are terrific

First impressions: Everyone in the store is patient and kind, and despite the fact that children must go upstairs for fitting (a huge inconvenience if you have a baby sleeping in a pram) the shop is well set up for little ones

Ease of Use: Jessica, the lovely young assistant, did an expert job of fitting Freya for her boots and making sure that we are both happy with the style and fitting. Freya has wide feet so the range of width fittings is very reassuring. There is plenty of room for growth and Freya is happy that she can get the boots on and off herself!

Nothing is too much trouble, and Jessica offered to order in one style that was not available in the shop

Pros: A great range of shoes and boots, available in a range of width fittings, with an expert fitting service. With little feet, with bones so soft, it is essential to buy the best quality and fit and this really is one of my favorite places to shop because of that

Cons: The children’s section in Clark’s of Beckenham is upstairs – so it could be a proble for some

Value for money:. I realise that top quality leather shoes like this are not cheap for some, but I see them as an essential item. For the service and quality, they are excellent value for money
