Name of product: Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara – Estée Lauder

Price: £18.50

The blurb: “Thanks to the formula’s unique ‘double-lifting effect’ lashes instantly ‘wake-up’ with a defining lifted look and maintain their lifted appearance for up to 15 hours.” (I wonder if they could develop a product like this for the décolletage!)

First impressions: The packaging is the very tasteful – Estee Lauder blue and gold, but what I particularly liked about this was the ridged-grip top, making easy to open and apply the mascara

Ease of Use: The grip top made it easy to apply, even in awkward positions (we won’t go into details, but it involves a three point turn in a Range Rover, and a lesser mascara would have ended up on the floor!). The mascara glides on quickly and can be layered to create a degree of volume without clumping – a necessary requirement for rapid morning application and a luscious look at the school gates. The brush does not taper and this concerned me a bit at first. However, it made applying the mascara in the corners easier and I didn’t poke my eye out!

Pros: The wand allows simple and effortless application without looking like Spiderman has released his web on your lashes. The look is natural and elegant, as if I wake up looking like this everyday (I am allowed to dream…) What’s more – it lasted all day without a smudge and then came off easily with makeup remover

Cons: The mascara claims to deliver a curling effect which was difficult for me to assess – but when one has naturally curly eyelashes, that kind of a difference would be hard to test. (she smiles coyly). Also, if you are looking for a very heavy look, this is not the mascara for you. It can be layered to create some volume, but you will never get it as thick as Liza Minelli (but then do you want to?)

Value for money:. This mascara lives up to its name; as promised it delivered zero-smudge and 15 hours of staying power. The wand is perfect for fast, easy application and produces stunning, defined eyelashes for fluttering, day or night – very me!

Dulwichmum verdict:
