title pic Equus – Balayage and 12 week blow dry

Posted by dulwichmum on Wed 2 March 2011

Yes, I know, I reviewed Equus Hair Salon on the Brompton Road, a couple of weeks ago, but, I must admit that I have been committed to my regular colourist and hair salon for an age, and I won’t trust my tresses with simply anyone (shakes head). When I was originally invited to review Equus , I opted for the safe choice and had a blow dry, Keratin glaze and manicure, it was all so fabulous (sigh), the best blow dry (Arturo Manuel Garcia is gifted!) and “Knightsbridge” mani I have ever had – no, really. I skipped out the door and cruised around Harrods for the afternoon; secure in the knowledge that no-one looked swishier, more glossy, or fabulous than me!

In my experience, grown up women are more likely to leave their husbands than change their colourist. Having found someone I could trust, waited for months on a list, worked my way up to establish my regular 7 week Saturday slot and established a great working relationship with him over the last ten years – it would be crushingly embarrassing to return to him, having made a terrible mistake, surely similar to admitting that one has been unfaithful… (bites lip)?

While I was at Equus, I closely observed the staff at work, I was inspired by their glossy satisfied customers – incredibly impressed with everything I saw and concluded that I was stuck in a “safe” hair rut… (wimper). I am not ready for a blue rinse yet, and I don’t want to look like a teen either, but I must admit that I felt a little …mumsy (gulp), it was time for a change, clearly!

Jack Howard, resident colourist at Equus, is an expert and educator in the art of “Balayage” – he has recently returned from working in New York, where they truly understand the meaning of gloss and high-end grooming. Jack is charming, handsome (swoon) and married, but primarily he is an artist. Jack states that he is only ever happy if the customer is happy –“it is not my hair after all”. I think I am in love (swoon). He promised to “put the sex back” into my hair (I almost inhaled my veneers) – but like a moth to the flame, I returned to see him last weekend.

With cutting edge, premium treatments such as Yuko straightening, the Brocato 12 week blow dry, Ombre and Balayage hi-lights and Essie manicures available at the salon, you know it is not going to be cheap – but cheap is not a look I aim to achieve (smirk). I am a high net worth individual, not a damn arts student and I have learned from experience that you get what you pay for.

Balayage does not result in the harsh lines of colour re-growth that are to be observed when conventional hi-lights or colour grow out. Each strand of the hair is expertly painted, in soft tones specifically selected to compliment the complexion. My hair colour looks natural and sun kissed – everyone is commenting on it, there is no going back. Jack Howard’s expertly applied Balayage has perfectly framed my face and taken years off me, and if it were not for the fact that I am an anonymous blogger, I would post an image of myself to prove it (I am such a private person).

Darren Eaton followed my colour with a Brocato 12 week blow dry – which, unlike another brand of Blow dry treatment I reviewed last year, can be washed the very next day. The Global 12 week Brazilian Blow dry left my scalp itchy and uncomfortable for three days. Brocato however, made my hair glossy and lustrous – and the products that are recommended to maintain this treatment are stunningly good too. As someone who works out regularly, I couldn’t bear to leave my hair unwashed for longer than 24 hours.

I want Jack Howard, to be my next aupair, that man is super – who cares if he has child care experience… even my chocolate coloured “Luxedo” Essie polish did not chip for an entire week! Equus is very me, it is all about quality!

I skipped out of that salon feeling renewed and refreshed, practically blinding drivers on the Brompton Road with my glossy locks – far more “sumptuous” than “swish” (Cat Deely is frightfully high street – don’t you agree?)! I can’t wait to return. There is something incredibly refreshing about spending an afternoon with a group of expert, authoritative, creative men, dedicated to my pleasure (smirk). I find women stylists always get so jealous of my diamonds and fabulous hand bags.
