Name of product: Estée Lauder – Blue Dahlia Collection – Surreal Violet and Blue Dahlia Nail Lacquer

Price: £12 for a 10ml Nail Lacquer

The blurb: New Artistic Director, Tom Pecheaux has revamped the Estee Lauder Pure Color make-up collection for Autumn/Winter! The Blue Dahlia vision in colour for Autumn 2010 consists of smouldering eyes, shimmering lips and bold nails. The inspiration was found backstage at the Derek Lam “Myth of the West” themed Autumn/Winter 2010 Fashion Show. Tom created a strong, intensely energetic look that perfectly combined the design and fantasy of the clothing. The complete make-up collection includes two distinct looks as well as two complementary lip products that create a visionary, avant-garde look with a touch of whimsical glamour

Estée Lauder’s Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Blue Dahlia and Surreal Violet perfectly pair with the collection to finish off nails and toes in dramatic, fearless colour

First impressions: This collection hits the shops (and I expect – the Estee Lauder website) any day now, and is certain to inspire a spot of self-gifting. The Estee Lauder website is beautifully presented, and I feel compelled to direct you to the “Looks and Tips” section which contains videos and tips to perfect that glossy, high end look that comes naturally to me (smirk)! The new packaging is beautiful, combining the gold that we associate with Estée Lauder with a modern glass cube full of gorgeous colour. The two new Blue Dahlia nail colours are Surreal Violet and Blue Dahlia. Both bottles look stunning and are a beautiful addition to my dressing table – I am such a lucky girl!

Ease of Use: The colours are rich and iridescent, and the brush allows smooth application. For best coverage, Surreal Violet requires two coats and considerable drying time. If you are like me and try to let your nails dry whilst being a multitasking momshell and firing the aupair by text, don’t! Pre pour yourself a nice glass of Chablis and let your lacquer dry slowly for best results. Once dry the lacquer lasts well without nicks or chips or the need for retouching

Pros: These nail varnishes are simply gorgeous colours and work equally well on hands and feet. For a vibrant evening look I recommend the Blue Dahlia and the beautiful Surreal Violet works well for an eye-catching daytime look. These colours are unlike any others colours I have tried recently and certainly have something special about them. Whilst wearing each of the colours I have had many complements and envious looks as those around try to work out how they can get their hands on these shades (bless!)

Cons: The only con that springs to mind is the drying time on these lacquers, they do need 20 minutes to 30 minutes to be completely dry but once dry they do look beautiful for days. Hey ho, where is the corkscrew?

Value for money: These nail varnishes are great value for money and are stunning teamed with the enormous rock on my engagement ring (I am such a show off!)

Dulwichmum verdict: ★★★★☆

Stockists: At an Estee Lauder counter near you!
