The blurb: “Inspired by one of Clinique’s most popular Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duos, Clinique’s NEW Limited-Edition Strawberry Fudge Colour Collection is sure to top every holiday wish list. This decadent collection combines rich chocolate browns with luscious blushing pinks for a sweet festive look
The shining star of the collection is the NEW Limited Edition Strawberry Fudge Holiday Compact- a treat for eyes and cheeks. Beneath the beautifully designed mirrored cover of this sleek silver compact lies a trio of eye shadows and a romantic soft pink blush. These perfectly matched shades light up the eyes, while a swipe of blush conjures the glow that follows a stolen kiss under the mistletoe. High Lengths Mascara creates long, pretty lashes to accentuate the shimmering eye shadow shades. And for the finishing touch – NEW Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Colour in Strawberry Bliss provides beautiful gloss and shine for a pretty pink pout”
First impressions: The compact is glittery and mirrored and appears to provide a spot of top level self-indulgence packed into an elegant case (bats eyelashes). Inside, there is the colour surge eye shadow trio which consists of a light rosy pink, a medium brown and a dark brown shade and a rosy pink blusher and brushes. The Vitamin C lip smoothie is simple yet glossy with its shiny silver lid and simple packaging. The lip liner has a useful sharpener contained within the lid! The high lengths mascara is simply packaged and glossy; perfect for the fast approaching winter
Ease of Use: The compact comes with directions to achieve best effects layering the lightest shade over the lid, adding the medium brown to the lower lid and blending the deepest shade into the outer corner and lower lash line then swirling the blusher over the apples of the cheeks (I am not sure that my cheeks are shaped like apples and I really don’t feel that I want them to be…). This product is very easy to apply and allows you to achieve a variety of looks by experimenting with more or less of the deepest shade and the application to the lower lashes. I did find it difficult to perfect the application to the lower lashes with the brushes within the set and for more precise application I used my own narrow eye shadow brush. The blusher goes on extremely well and really does give you that ‘I’ve been running about happily throwing snowballs at my housekeeper/aupair/nanny/cleaner/personal trainer/interior designer/hairdresser/facialist/dog walker/window cleaner/children’s piano teacher/mother-in-law and enjoying the wonders of winter look’. It is a soft rosy pink and blends easily into your cheeks leaving a natural glow
The Lip Liner is the most useful and versatile shade of dusky/neutral pink and will team with virtually any lip colour. The Vitamin C Lip Smoothie has a twist load brush for easy application and the brush is perfect for gliding on the moisturising high shine gloss. The mascara has a narrow wand style applicator and when pulled through the lashes it leaves you with clump-free defined lashes that are evenly coated from root to tip
Pros: The compact not only looks glorious but with the colours within you can conjure up the perfect winter look. I found with experimentation that layering more of the deeper colours into my lower lid and layering the softer shade over my upper lid gave me a smoky evening look but using just the two lighter shades together gave me a subtle daytime glow. The blusher looks so natural that you may actually fool people into thinking you have managed to side-step a cold all winter and asking you for your advice on how they too can become a picture of health. The Lip Liner and Lip Smoothie glides on beautifully and lasts well without feathering. The colour is a perfect accompaniment to the compact colours and gives your lips a splash of moisture to combat chapped lips this winter. The mascara wand gives good coverage and easy application for a natural long lashed look
Cons: The only con for me was the brushes for the eye shadow trio. A finer definer would have helped me and my clumsy digits to create the perfection I am eager to achieve
Value for money:. Good value for money as a self-gifting experience or an absolutely perfect Christmas present for a chum or sister who likes to look her best
