title pic Huille de Perilla, Anti-Ageing Oil – Melvita

Posted by dulwichmum on Sat 7 August 2010

Name of product: Melvita – Anti-Ageing Perilla Oil

Price: £15 for 50ml

The blurb: Melvita is a French company established in 1983 by biologist Beranrd Chevilliat in the Ardeche Gorges. “Chevilliat was fascinated by the ways the bees interacted with the surrounding ecosystem and developed an apiary. In the unspoilt countryside using his knowledge of biology he began his mission to produce organic beauty products using the natural resources

This ecological and organic company was one of the first to receive the ECOCERT certification and provides effective beauty products with an ecological responsibility that stems from raw ingredients, product formulation and production

The organically farmed and responsibly picked ingredients produce products that preserve nature whilst maintaining and boosting your own natural beauty

Perilla Oil works to provide potent nutrition for the skin and has been used traditionally as an anti-ageing treatment. Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (Omega 3) at 45-60% depending on harvests, Perilla Oil soothes the skin aiding natural skin repair and rejuvenation

The oil originated in the Far East, and has been highly popular in Japan for over a thousand years. It’s extracted from the first cold-press of the seeds from the plant of the same name”

First impressions: The product is boxed in simple recycled cardboard and the Perilla Oil is stored in a pump action glass bottle. The oil is transparent and yellow and is rich and viscous (no surprise there then)

Ease of Use: The oil should be applied evenly to face or body and massaged in to aid absorption. In order to increase the product’s effectiveness, it is advised that it should be applied to damp skin and I have found that it is most effective when used after a bath or shower. The product should be stored in the fridge after opening in order to help preserve the delicate nutrients

Pros: Perilla Oil is easily absorbed into the skin and I would certainly agree that it has great moisturising properties, leaving my skin feeling extremely smooth and healthy, especially if used after a bath or shower. The oil has a subtle pleasant smell that reminds me of childhoods spent climbing hay bales and running around on freshly cut grass

Cons: The oil does need a little time to be fully absorbed, and therefore, is best applied as part of an evening pampering session rather than trying to integrate it into a fraught morning routine. It does not seem to come off onto clothes but I would suggest that it could be best to chose ones outfit carefully if you intend to use it at the start of the day! The other con for some may be the scent, I like the subtle scent but it is not unnaturally perfumed and may not be for everyone…

Value for money:. This oil is great value for money at £15 for 50ml. When applied to the face alone the bottle could last for over six months but applied to the body (depending on how many gorgeous curves you have) I would predict it to last approximately 3 months. A good value beauty buy

Dulwichmum verdict: ★★★☆☆
