title pic Nail Lacquer in Cherry Bomb by Orly

Posted by dulwichmum on Fri 6 August 2010

Name of product: Orly Nail Lacquer – Cherry Bomb

Price: £7.95 for 18ml

The blurb: Orly says “As one of the nail care industry’s renowned colour houses, Orly seasonally introduces new colour ensembles and updates the permanent collection of over 150 shades. By analyzing fashion trends and precisely custom-blending hues, ORLY has established a dynamic palette composed of subtle sheers, vivid crèmes, dazzling shimmers, smooth glitters and hot neons. Plus, each Orly shade is DBP-free and features the award-winning Gripper Cap

First impressions: The glass bottle is chunky and sturdy; it is made of thick glass and bears the Orly emblem in metallic grey. This looks stylish against the light and dark grey contrasting cap. The lacquer itself is bright vibrant red with a hint of iridescent gold running through it, to give a shimmery effect

Ease of Use: The nail lacquer goes on easily. The brush is a good width for precise application

Pros: The very first pro that springs to mind is a small detail that many other lacquer manufactures seem to miss: it needs to be easy to open the bottle without smudging wet nails, without having to resort to using my teeth or without having to distract Albina (my housekeeper) from more pressing duties. Hallelujah for a nail lacquer that respects the need for my perfect veneers to remain in tact, the Au Pair needs to get on and do some au pairing (whatever that may actually be, I am constantly reworking her job description) and my need to avoid any further irritation associated with smudged nail varnish and a very busy schedule. So just to recap on pros: the soft malleable, rubber cap is a very simple, very real pro when using this product. The nail lacquer is long lasting and with two coats can last for over a week. The colour is vibrant and summery and is great on finger nails or toe nails. It looks really good on short finger nails especially with tan (God I look stunning at the moment!)

Cons: The main cons with this lacquer are that it does require two coats and to give it a sleek professional finish it benefits from a clear top coat

Value for money:. This product is great value for money, it is a good quality lacquer that is long lasting and provides lovely nails in two/three easy coats without having to spend thirty minutes hearing about your beauticians forthcoming trip to Carlisle bay in Antigua to recover from my family holiday avec poppets (sigh)

Dulwichmum verdict: ★★★☆☆
