Posted by dulwichmum on Mon 7 March 2011

Name of product: Skin Science Lunch break lift exclusively at Harvey Nichols

(Saturday 26 February – Saturday 5 March)

Price: £30 half hour facial, which was redeemed against any Skin Science product, purchased at the time

The blurb: In the far Arctic reaches of Norway, (sounds cold already…. where are my snow boots?)… where nature has learnt to protect herself with powerful defence systems, scientists (and Geir Håvard Kvalheim who really is rather a dish!), have made astonishing discoveries about the natural therapeutic properties of marine life. Please don’t tell me I have to wear a side of salmon on my face and have it applied by a someone called Helga? The result is Skin Science – a brand new concept in skincare. Apparently “anti-ageing” is old hat, “THIS IS AGE MANAGEMENT!” How utterly fabulous!

This range of products has been proven to delay skin ageing by 20% – really? Bring on the products I’m ready and waiting, sea food or not!

So the clever bods at Skin Science have produced 6 products in this range and for a limited time only, Harvey Nics in Knightsbridge, London, were offering a 30min lunchtime facial bonanza whereby one gets to experience almost all of the range. What’s great about this is that the £30 was refundable against any Skin Science product that you might buy following the facial

The six products all contain something called ‘Spermine’, a rather unfortunate name… but apparently this is the most powerful antioxidant made by nature and is up to 30 times stronger then vitamin E. It is also proven to delay ageing by 20%

First impressions: First of all I LOVE going into Harvey Nics especially since I arrived too early on purpose… so I just had to while away the time sipping Champagne on the 5th floor…well it would be rude not to!

The Skin Science counter is situated on the ground floor and is immaculately presented. It’s clean and clinical in a very positive way and all the Skin Science representatives and therapists were a delight to talk to. They carefully explained the history of the range and the benefits of all the ingredients

On entering the therapy room (quick check…no salmon any where to be seen!) Anne Marie, my therapist for the next half hour explained briefly what she will be doing and without further ado I hopped onto the bed ready to find out if these products lived up to their claims!

After cleansing my face (not with any skin science products) she then began by gently massaging the Bio Active Instant Replenishing Complex all over my face

Next Anne Marie informed me that she was applying the Quicklift Mask. To my relief, she warned me that it has a strong alcoholic/glue type smell and that she was avoiding too much product under the nose area. It did have a strong odour! Not awful, just very strong and I was glad she told me before hand. The mask itself is a bright green gel in a tube and she painted it all over my face even over the eyelids and very close up to the eyes themselves. Anne Marie told me that I might experience a warm sensation especially around the eyes. There was, but not at all unpleasant. Also the mask did not tighten which for me was a bonus. It simply felt as though it was working. The Quick Lift mask was left on for about 15 to 20 minutes during which time the lights were turned very low, birds gently twittered throughout the music system and Anne Marie carried out the most wonderful head massage I’ve had in ages

Once the head massage was over, the facemask was then easily peeled off like a 2nd skin. Next the lightweight eye cream was gently patted all around the eye area. This cream, like the rest of the products, had no smell (except of course for the quick lift mask). In quick succession the Bio Active Stimulating Serum was massaged in, again a very light product, followed by the 24-hour protective SPF 15 cream. This particular product of course contains the vital Spermine but also Vitamin E, rose hip seed oil (for it’s skin healing properties, reducing wrinkles and the signs of ageing and redness) and omega 3.

I must say that my skin looked radiant; in fact I think I was positively glowing. My face felt incredibly soft! I forgot to take any makeup with me but I didn’t feel at all bothered as I walked out of Harvey Nics totally barefaced but with glowing healthy skin!

Pros: A great facial and a ideal way to experience and sample the new range of products! The results are undeniably impressive and my skin remained visibly softer, plumped and renewed for a several days after-wards

Cons: None at all, I loved the facial, but the total price of all the products in this range is £530! However, there’s no need to buy all of then. The Quicklift Mask is outstanding and probably the best plan is to go in and have a chat with the Skin Science team and see what they recommend

Value for money:. 5/5 for the facial

Dulwichmum verdict: ★★★★★

Stockists: The facial is no longer available but the products are available to purchase at HarveyNichols.com and branches of Harvey Nichols nationwide
