Tragedy
Posted by dulwichmum on Thu 18 September 2008
The tragic demise of Lehman Brothers is already having such a catastrophic effect on so very many people in the support industries (gasp). Dulwich Village resembled a ghost town tonight as I tottered through on my journey home from the office (OHMYGOD). I recognised the troubled confused faces of several redundant personal trainers, life coaches, florists and dog walkers sitting in one coffee shop… I may start some kind of charity initiative, there is such a perfect cocktail dress in the window of Eclipse on Park Hall Road.
I read in one newspaper that pedigree pooches are being delivered by the cab load to Battersea dogs home. All across Dulwich, Swiss balls are being deflated and hurled into garages and there isn’t an Ocado van to be seen anywhere! Some mums may just end up going to Iceland (not this one – clearly). Recently I noticed a most unfortunate vista on an Iceland delivery van as my bus coasted through Brixton. The wording on the side of was meant to read “Because Mums are heroes”, but some bounder had unkindly peeled off a selection of the letters, leaving just “Because Mums are h**oes”… It’s simply not Dulwich.
My heart welled up with sympathy when I heard about the plight of one personal trainer who had actually been employed by Lehman Brothers 7th floor gym in London to teach “body pump and step classes”. I felt compelled to become his Facebook friend. He has taken such pains over his appearance, cut the very arms from Bet Lynches favourite fun fur coat to construct himself a pair of recycled and cost effective leg warmers. His Facebook profile statement is so inspirational and incredibly positive:
“Sphinx Patterson’s body is fit.His mind is sound..Feet are firmly on the ground..The world needs a Hero when there is fear all around .Peace”
In an interview he vowed: “We’re sure dude will find some way of comforting them. They don’t call him “Sphinx” for nothing.”
Some people will never ever stop giving (sigh)…

Darling Kitschen Pink,
I can’t seem to sound “down with the kids” myself (sigh)…
Perfect Daddy,
Indeed we should. Lets crack open the Krug!.
Sadie darling,
Do you mind if I call you darling? I am such a genuine and thoughtful person. Sometimes I shock myself too!

Dear DM what a wonderful idea. Perhaps all these people could make a new living re-training stressed-out ex-city boys as florists and personal trainers… I mean they’re going to have to do SOMEthing.

Oh dear, now I can’t get that poem out of my head:
The Sphinx’s posterior sphincter
Is all clogged with the sands of the Nile
Which accounts for the hump on the camel
And the Sphinx’s inscrutible smile!

Oh Adventure Mother,
Lets chose our outfits! James can play the fiddle while Rome burns…
Sweet Daddy!
OHMYGOD! Such super news. Perhaps I shall buy new shoes too!
Sweet Sparx,
You know it is true. I could hire several to walk the puppies I shall adopt from the Battersea Dogs home (sigh). I believe they have all the best breeds now.
Nice Working Mother,
Could it be that he should in fact be called “Sphincs”?

The way things are going we will all either be volunteering in charity shops or buying from them soon. And who knows… perhaps there will be special chartered buses from Dulwich to Brixton to go and do just that, and the Iceland shopping…?
