title pic Swiss international Air Lines (SWISS) – travelling with children

Posted by dulwichmum on Thu 4 August 2011

Name of product: Swiss Air, Flying London City Airport to Geneva, 2 adults and 2 children aged 8 and 9

Price: From £89 return, including taxes!

The blurb: “Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) serves 73 destinations in 39 countries all over the world from its Zurich hub and operates a fleet of 98 aircraft. In the UK and Ireland SWISS operates 34 daily flights from London Heathrow, London city, Birmingham International, Manchester, and Dublin to Switzerland and , via its hubs to the world

Switzerland’s national airline embodies traditional Swiss values such as personal service, attention to detail and typical Swiss hospitality – we aim to make each and every customer feel at home on our flights

SWISS is a member of Europe’s biggest Frequent Flyer Program, Miles & More, a member of Star Alliance and is one of the few carriers to operate an all-inclusive pricing model with no hidden costs”

First impressions: When we arrived at London City Airport at the crack of dawn with 2 excited children, I found the automated check in a little overwhelming. However, the staff were incredibly accommodating and efficient, and printed out my tickets and checked us all in with a smile. Words can’t express the relief that was for us! We were also so pleased to find an airline that doesn’t bother with this “hand luggage only” concept, which can be a nightmare when travelling with children and babies

Ease of Use: The flight to and from our destination took off promptly and there were nice big leather seats with plenty of leg room (I know – and in economy too!). Despite the fact that the majority of passengers were obviously business travellers, several parents were travelling alone with young children – one woman had a small dog in a handbag, and the staff were incredibly patient and accommodating

I found this airline refreshing, and I am now in love with London City Airport – I previously only considered it for business travel. London City is actually a great choice for travelling with young children – the communal spaces are far more comfortable and intimate than the enormous areas that Gatwick and Heathrow are! To put it simply, there is no where for the kids to go missing!

Pros: The price includes luggage and in flight catering, there are no hidden extras. The staff were efficient and courteous, nothing is too much trouble, everything about the airline was prompt and efficient. You can fly economy with SWISS without feeling like an economy passenger! Flying with children with SWISS was a pleasure! This airline has the image of a business airline and so I noticed very few holiday makers. I hate the bun fight that holiday travel has become, we pre-selected our seats at check in, and there was no mad scramble on board!

Cons: I genuinely can’t think of any. I will fly SWISS again with my children, they are outstanding

Value for money:. I found this airline to be the most terrific value, I am so impressed. I genuinely could not recommend it more highly
