Name of product: The Handy Squad

Price: £100 plus VAT for 2 hours

The blurb: “The Handy Squad are always on call for those niggly jobs around the house: putting up shelves, hanging mirrors/paintings, changing light bulbs, painting and decorating or just being an extra pair of hands to move or lift heavy furniture.

They are also proving to be extremely popular with parents and have just launched their Mother’s Little Helper package: assembling pushchairs and cots, adding child-safety catches to kitchen cupboards, fitting baby gates, child-proofing electrical plug sockets, painting the nursery pink (then re-painting it blue!) and so on. They’ve even managed to revive an Action Man who was wounded in a bedroom battle!

The Handy Squad recognise that for mums with small children, it’s important to feel at ease, which is why all the handymen are uniformed, polite, punctual and tidy and have all been CRB checked. They give hourly arrival slots, so they fit around your busy day rather than the other way around, they charge by the half hour so you don’t get billed for ‘extra’ time, and they work evenings and Saturdays (which may suit you best as you work full time).”

First impressions: Well I have so very much help (smirk), and a full compliment of staff at my capacious home – clearly, but I will always find something for a workman to do! The ‘handyman’ turned up early, what a pleasant surprise! He was adorned in his bright yellow ‘handy squad’ gillette with his sweet little helmet and toolbox. He was polite and friendly to me, my chum AND her toddler!

Ease of Use: I simply pointed out what needed to be done – he double checked positions for mirrors and pictures and I left him to it

Pros: All those jobs you never get done (especially if your husband hates DIY and your housekeeper is a member of a union) are miraculously completed in a jiffy! Wandering around after he left, my house felt like it’d had a mini make-over!

Cons: None really, he left the house spotless. I asked Albina to move his toolbox out of the way at one point – otherwise the tiny toddlerette would have been right in there, taking part!

Value for money: 5/5, I would definitely use them again (the handyman was quite the dish!)

Dulwichmum verdict: 5/5 You are not left waiting around all day; these guys are quick and professional and work around you – my favorite sort of man, don’t you agree?
