The blurb: A hilariously uplifting adventure where the sky is no longer the limit. Carl Fredricksen, a retired balloon salesman is part rascal, part dreamer who is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unbeknownst to Carl, Russell, an overeager 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer who has never ventured beyond his backyard, is in the wrong place at the wrong time – Carl’s front porch! The world’s most unlikely duo reach new heights and meet fantastic friends like Dug, a dog with a special collar that allows him to speak, and Kevin, a rare 13-foot-tall flightless bird. Stuck together in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realises that sometimes life’s biggest adventures aren’t the ones you set out looking for.
Up reaches new heights with a pristine picture, theatre-quality sound and hours of never-before-seen bonus features available only on Blu-ray Hi-Def. It’s an adventure that will set your spirits soaring!
First impressions: From the creators of Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc, winner of two Academy Awards®, including Best Animated Feature, I know that Up is going to be a huge hit with my kids during the Easter School holidays from the pedigree on the box! The Blu-Ray and DVD combi pack is perfect for my family, because we watch Blu-Ray in the house (the disks are more hard wearing, sound is stunning cinema quality, images more vivid!) and keep the DVD for long car journeys to grandparents over the school holidays. The pack contains bonus features – there’s an animated ‘making-of’ that’s exclusive to Blu-ray. One of the advantages of Blu-ray is the amount of extra space it has for bonus features like this.
Ease of Use: The poppets are actually far more proficient with DVD and Blu-Ray player than me by now, so literally, a child can use these!
Pros: You know that you are guaranteed top quality family entertainment with any product from Disney Pixar, but this film has been so well received and reviewed and been awarded so many accolades, one can rest assured that this is a future classic and is essential family viewing. My munchkins adored this film and I rather liked it too. The animation is breathtakingly good and the sound, on Blu-ray, is cinema quality. Even if you saw this film in the cinema, you have to own a copy as the children will enjoy it again and again, there are so many bonus features and lots of previously unseen footage, it is a must-have.
Cons: Don’t bother to ask your poppetss what they would like to eat for supper when this film is on, the lights will be on, but there will be no-one home…silence!
Value for money: The combination pack is rather expensive, but when a film is this good, I find it essential to have it on both DVD and Blu-Ray. The animation is simply breathtaking on Blu-Ray.
